The corruption center that is the work of the underground part of the Sarmiento Line, could not be alien to the serious economic problems that the country is experiencing today.
The lack of funds and the great devaluation of the peso during the year 2018 made the costs of the work terribly expensive. Just one of the keys to the adjustment of expenditures in the 2019 Budget was the cut to public works, as part of the official plan to comply with the IMF's goals.
The companies that carry out the work stopped the excavation of the tunnel, the transport of earth and the assembly of the cement rings. In addition, more than 100 workers who took care of the construction tasks were laid off and twenty contracts with suppliers of the Ghella and Sacde Consortium, the construction company that Marcelo Mindlin bought from Angelo Calcaterra, the cousin of President Mauricio Macri, were put on hold. the Clarín newspaper.
While the unions warn that there is no concrete date to resume the work of digging the tunnel, which still have 11 kilometers of work. Among the works that are pending is the construction of the tunnel between Haedo and Castelar.

As we expressed above, this work was born wrongly because it has several trials in the Federal Court of Argentina for the problems of bribes of the Brazilian company Odebrecht and where many voices rose against such work because it notably reduces the function that provides the Line Sarmiento.
